How to maintain the brake drum

RELEASE DATE:2023.07.31

1、 Strengthen the inspection work before and during the journey, especially the technical conditions of the braking, steering, transmission, and wheel parts must be intact to ensure reliable operation.

2、 Before the pipeline inspection work is about to go downhill, especially on some long and steep slopes, it is necessary to stop the car and observe the situation of the road. Then, carefully check the working brake system to see if the air pressure is intact, sufficient, and whether each brake pipeline has air leakage (pneumatic braking) or oil leakage (hydraulic braking), and whether there is any detachment in the connecting parts.

3、 The traction effect of the engine and foot brake shall be used for reasonable braking to control the vehicle speed. It is not allowed to step on the clutch pedal or slide in neutral, and emergency braking shall be avoided. Some drivers, in order to save fuel, blindly slide in neutral or even turn off the engine when going downhill, which is very dangerous. When going downhill, the center of gravity of the vehicle moves forward, and the inertial force becomes the driving force for the downhill, inevitably accelerating the vehicle's speed. The steeper and longer the slope, the heavier the vehicle, and the faster the speed. The driver needs to use brakes to reduce the speed to ensure driving safety.

Additionally. Frequent use of foot brakes can result in a significant loss of air pressure in the air reservoir, resulting in insufficient air supply from the air compressor, which may lead to less sensitive braking. If the traction force generated by the engine not separating from the transmission device is used to reduce the speed when going downhill, the vehicle will not exceed the speed limit. The lower the gear, the better the traction effect, avoiding frequent braking, and ensuring safety.

4、 When encountering long downhill slopes and sharp curves, scientific driving can be done in sections. After running for a distance, stop at a place with a slightly gentle slope and a good front and rear view. On the one hand, let the air reservoir be fully inflated, and on the other hand, let the brake drum and shoes cool down before driving.

5、 When a vehicle is driving with a cooling brake drum, the braking efficiency will significantly decrease as the temperature of the brake drum increases. Therefore, the vehicle is equipped with a water reservoir. Before going downhill, turn on the water reservoir switch to let it pour water onto the outer surface of the brake drum to cool down, which can effectively improve braking efficiency.

6、 Most vehicles that use good brake fluid for hydraulic braking use alcohol based brake fluid, which contains volatile alcohol. Frequent braking can easily cause an increase in the temperature of the braking pipeline, resulting in air resistance and brake failure. If some good brake fluid with high boiling point and not easy to deteriorate is selected, the driving Factor of safety can be greatly improved.
